I've been dealing with being overweight for about 10 years now. Each year I say, I'll deal with it, and each year I don't. I'm taking one prescription medication and I'd like to see that go bye-bye.
2007 is my year! Life is going to change. I'm hoping to put 300 miles on my bike and several "mountains" (locally) under my feet :)

I'm determined to stay with this! I really need to respect myself more and make time for myself.
Today we took a 4 mile hike in Kent. And our goal for this week is to walk everyday before going to work. We did this Friday last week and am determined to do it this week. I'm not keen on signing up for a gym so I'm going to give myself two weeks to get the most from the outdoors, if we keep missing because of weather or light, then I'll be going to the gym.
I'm back with the nice weather and family/friends are keeping me motivated. It's been great getting back into biking this season, I'm doing so much better than where I used to start off the past 2 years. I'm always motivated by the memories of trying to bike out of the parking lot of our old apartment and having to stop twice to stretch out leg cramps and catch my breath.
We started off the season with a hike in Steep Rock and then decided to tackle Cobble Mountain. We're making it a goal to do a significant hike each weekend and bike twice a week.
Now I just have to curb my diet a bit more, and good thing is new job does not have vending machines or a cafeteria, so I'll be eating better already :)
Thanks for the tips. I really love that Helen Keller quote. I'm going to print that out and put it up at work.
I took off for the thanksgiving holiday. My new road bike came in, and now the back wheel is at the bike shop being turned into a quick release wheel. Don't ask, it was a very cheap bike.
I was eating a relatively good breakfast, but keyword is was. I'm trying to get back to that. I found I really like english muffins with peanut butter, small glass of V8, an apple and some tea.
Oddly enough I tend to undereat most of the day and then over eat at dinner. That part from the special really stuck with Craig, about automating your meals.
I updated my goals here on Traineo to just get to where I want to be for my next doctor's visit which is in 40 days. I think that's a bit more reasonable :)
Thanks for the cheers, I really need it and appreciate it.
- Automate your eating = eat around the same time every day and eat the foods that work for you.
- Don't undereat = you'll be starving later and binge on unhealthy foods.
- Plan your meals = stay on track by planning to eat 3 meals with 2 to 3 snacks during the day in between.
These are a few key points made in 'You: On a Diet.' I figured they would be worth sharing, as they work for me.
It's a new week! It's a new leaf!! Turn it over!!!
"Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done
without hope and confidence." -- Helen Keller (1880-1968) American Writer
So, you need a solid plan. A course of action. You need to set a goal - which you did using Traneo. But you need to set a smaller goal. Perhaps it's just one thing to do/not do the following day. Or perhaps it's just planning out your day, the night before, or even in the morning when in the shower. You need Me Time to set the record and day straight.
I hope this helps: simple suggestions to help you make it through the next few days. I know that Life doesn't always go according to plan, but if you account for that while making plans, you should be okay.
Are you eating a good breakfast? A good breakfast will give you a good jumpstart to the day, supporting a positive attitude, thus outlook for the day ahead. You can do it!!! And I will watch and push you...
Now, if I could just take my own advice......
Tonight was sculpting/toning class, with a lot of squats and lunges. I did great with these over the summer, but I also had a month of decent biking under my belt and I think I was much better conditioned. I now feel like I stepped back many months.
Now I need to recapture what I had over the summer; eating well, biking, lots of water, and good sleep.
I'm thinking of taking a break all together soon from the aerobics thing. It's not bolstering my desire to go and when you start to dread something, that's not good. Not to say I won't do it again, and I would like to, but I think the concept of falling back and regrouping would be good right now.
Needless to say I was quite freaked out, reading about my heart and high blood pressure and what stress can do to your artery walls. I do not want to die, and I'd like to be less stressed. I also decided that being freaked out wasn't going to get me anywhere and that I should just DO something.
So today I brought my walking shoes and a rain jacket to go walk on lunch (about to go now), then head over to SS for a salad. I'd like to just walk over to SS, but it's pretty nasty out.
I am signed up for aerobics tonight, but I've put myself on a hiatus from monday's class the cardio step. I messed up my knee pretty bad last time after not going for a while. So I want to rebuild that area, get myself back up and then rejoin that night.
I keep hearing in my head Jack Lalane being interviewed on the TODAY show, they kept asking him what's his secret. He simply said, I keep moving and I don't eat anything processed.
I'd like to be saying those things too when I'm 80.
